Mify Barcode Scan & Labels
Mify Barcode Scan & Labels is a Shopify app that updates inventory when you scan barcodes — setting, adding or subtracting stock at any location — and designs and prints barcode labels, generates missing SKUs and barcodes in bulk, and finds duplicate values before they cause picking errors.
Who it’s for
Stores that count, receive or label stock by hand:
- Receiving deliveries. Scan each item as the boxes are unpacked to add it to stock at the right location.
- Stocktakes and cycle counts. Scan a shelf and set the counted quantity instead of typing numbers into the Shopify admin.
- Write-offs and damages. Scan items out of stock with a reason.
- Catalogs without barcodes. Generate SKUs and GTIN barcodes for the variants that are missing them, then print labels so every item can be scanned.
- Messy catalogs. Find SKUs and barcodes used on more than one variant before they send a picker to the wrong shelf.
Scanning to update stock
- Pick the location, then increase, decrease or set the quantity, with a reason for the adjustment.
- Add items with a USB or Bluetooth scanner, your phone camera in the Shopify mobile app, or by selecting products from the catalog.
- A scan matches the variant whose Barcode field holds the scanned code.
- Review each row’s quantity, then commit the session to write the changes to Shopify.
- Every session is kept in the scan history, and scanned items export to CSV — per session or for a date range.
Labels
- Start a template from a preset for Dymo, Brother, Zebra or Avery label stock, or a custom size in millimetres.
- Simple designer: switch SKU, product title, price, vendor, barcode or QR code on or off.
- Advanced designer: drag text, barcodes, QR codes, lines and images onto the label. Text uses merge fields such as SKU, product and variant title, price, vendor, product type, tags and barcode.
- Barcode formats: Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, EAN-13, UPC-A, ITF-14, Codabar and Data Matrix, plus QR codes.
- Print as a PDF on any printer, or send labels straight to a Dymo, Brother or Zebra thermal printer through QZ Tray, a free helper on your computer. A calibration sheet lines up the print.
Bulk tools
- SKU generator. Build SKUs from a prefix, suffix, separator and counter, optionally with vendor, product type and variant, for every variant missing one or only the ones you pick.
- Barcode generator. Create valid GTIN-13 (EAN-13), GTIN-12 (UPC-A) or GTIN-8 codes from your GS1 company prefix.
- Every generator run is a batch you can undo.
- Duplicates report. Groups repeated SKUs and barcodes with the variants that share them, and pre-fills them for printing new labels.

Frequently asked questions
Which barcode scanners work? Any USB or Bluetooth scanner that types the code it reads into a text field. You can also scan with your phone’s camera in the Shopify mobile app, or pick products by hand without scanning.
Do my products need barcodes before I can scan? Yes. A scan looks for the variant whose Barcode field holds the scanned code. Products without one can get a GTIN from the barcode generator, or you can save your own codes in Shopify, then print labels for them.
Can I undo an inventory update? No. Committing a scan session writes the new quantities to Shopify, so check the location, the action and the quantities first. SKU and barcode generator runs are different: each run can be undone as a batch.
Which label printers can I use? Any printer, by downloading the labels as a PDF. Dymo LabelWriter, Brother QL and Zebra ZD thermal printers can also print directly through QZ Tray. Templates come with presets for Dymo, Brother, Zebra and Avery 5160 sheets, or you can set your own size.
Which barcode formats can I print? Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, EAN-13, UPC-A, ITF-14, Codabar and Data Matrix, as well as QR codes.
Can the app create barcodes for products that don’t have one? Yes. The barcode generator creates GTIN-13, GTIN-12 or GTIN-8 codes from your GS1 company prefix, for every variant that is missing one or only the ones you choose. Use your own GS1 prefix if you sell through retailers or marketplaces that check barcodes.
How many items can I scan in one session? Up to 30 SKUs on the Free plan and up to 1,000 on Professional. You can run as many sessions as you need on either plan.
What happens if I close the page in the middle of a scan? On Professional, scanned barcodes are saved in your browser automatically, so the session picks up where you left off on the same computer. On Free, commit or keep the page open until you finish.
